02 Dec Science Week 2021 at IMR
Irish Manufacturing Research (IMR) joined the celebration of Science Week 2021 hosted from the 7th to the 15th of November. IMR delivered two online events in partnership with Midlands Science. For one of the events, IMR’s Outreach and Education Programme Lead, Isabel Meza, delivered an online STEM Careers Talk to Mountrath School.
Innovate and Inspire with STEM
The following event was a webinar called “Innovate and Inspire with STEM” available for post-primary schools. This pre-recorded webinar portraited young engineers working in manufacturing and technology companies speaking about their job and the journey they have taken to get there. Both online events aimed to spread the message that there are many potential job opportunities available in science, technology, engineering and manufacturing and show them how exciting it can be.
Meet the Researcher
Throughout the week IMR researchers took over our social media channels with the Meet the Researcher series which highlighted aspects about their jobs and what they do in their day to day.
CIRCULÉIRE Circular Economy Workshop
Finally, IMR, in collaboration with CIRCULÉIRE, promoted a campaign where teachers registered their classes and received a short introduction to circular economy. Students were then invited to submit a video recording answering the question “How could the circular economy be implemented in your school?”. Two schools were selected as winners of this campaign. Transition Year students from Christ King Girls in Cork achieved first place and had the opportunity to visit IMR’s Lab on the 10th of November where they interacted with cutting edge technologies being used in manufacturing in Ireland. They also had the opportunity to learn about CIRCULEIRE, Irelands’ circular economy network and how to practically apply circular principals products.
