Virtualising the Rural Broadband Connection Hubs with Navit

We’re delighted to announce that the Department of Rural and Community Development (DRCD) has officially joined the Navit family! As part of this exciting new collaboration, DRCD will be using Navit to virtualise 50 Broadband Connection Point (BCP) buildings across the country over the coming months.

This major initiative supports the government’s ongoing commitment to rural development, community connectivity, and digital inclusion—bringing next-generation technology to local communities.

What Is Navit?

Developed by IMR, Navit is a cutting-edge digital twin platform that allows you to virtualise physical buildings in minutes. Using Navit, visitors can remotely explore any virtualised site before physically travelling—saving time, improving accessibility, and supporting better planning and operations.

Whether you’re planning a work visit, need to assess accessibility features, or are a vendor arriving for maintenance or equipment installation, Navit lets you explore the space virtually to ensure it meets your needs.

Once onsite, Navit also makes navigation easy. Its interactive indoor wayfinding helps users find the right room, asset, or facility quickly—eliminating the confusion of unfamiliar spaces.

Why DRCD Chose Navit

The 50 BCPs are vital digital access points, especially in rural and underserved areas. By virtualising these buildings, DRCD is making them more accessible and user-friendly than ever before. Visitors can now preview a BCP’s layout and features remotely, helping them choose the location that best suits their needs before they even leave home.

Navit in Action: Key Features

  • Virtualise any site in minutes
  • Overlay rich contextual data (e.g. YouTube videos, CAD models, QR codes)
  • View historical 360° imagery with “jump back in time” functionality
  • Splitscreen comparisons across different times
  • Access via phone, desktop, or VR headset
  • Experience true-to-scale layouts in virtual reality

With these capabilities, Navit turns physical spaces into interactive, data-rich virtual buildings —accessible anytime, from anywhere.

We’re proud to partner with DRCD on this important journey and look forward to supporting the rollout of Navit across Ireland’s BCPs.

Stay tuned for updates as the first virtualised BCPs go live!
